Saturday 6 October 2007 – Dream Generation Workshop

Just an update from two weeks ago, Saturday 22nd.

What came up was one of the boys who joined us, dream is to become a drug merchant. The Youth is adamant that this is what he wants to do, he has already targeted the cover up profession of engineering to hide behind his real business. He knows all the merchants in this area, what the needs are and who the users are.

What became clear was that this youth was being trained to be a merchant and also had knowledge of the systems and jargon used in the prisons. He wants to have money and believes drugs are the only way to make money and doesn’t care about what happens to the users, it’s all about the money!!!

This past Saturday, I ran a “Build your dreams” workshop, encouraging and motivating the youth to create and build their dreams.

I invested in a quarter page advert in the Eldorado Park Urban Newspaper, printed four banners, registered, paid for the website and mailboxes. Totaling to an amount of R5350.

Thanks to Kevin, who shared his art materials with us, crayons, papers, paint, paint brushes, clay, caps and badges. Thanks to my mother who got us drawing boards.

Saturday was flowing with rain; at 14h00 the rain came pouring down with no one on site!!! One Youth arrived at 14h00 with her umbrella and at 14h45 the rain finally stopped. So at 15h00, Sanchia and I finally started. A few minutes later, three young girls, Abidah, Ferahna and Nazley, walked by and joined us. We ended up getting lost in drawing and dancing!! We will be having the dream generation workshop next week. The four girls enjoyed spending time with us and one girl wrote a love letter to usJ.

Thanks for your support.
